The health approach of a mind-body therapist is that the two, mental and physical, are intricately related in nature. This form of treatment consists of techniques that aid in tackling the emotional, psychological, and physical aspects of a person to enhance the individual's overall harmony and balance.

The foundation of mind-body therapy revolves around the understanding that minds and bodies are very linked, and a disruption of one can have an impact on the other. Stress and anxiety, for example, can be expressed through pain, tension, or fatigue. Therapists help clients examine these connections and find methods to rebalance them.

These therapies involve common techniques of mind-body therapies, ranging from mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, guided imagery, and somatic therapies. They help in relaxation and enhance self-awareness by helping clients take charge of their healing process. Further, some therapists include various components of yoga, tai chi, or biofeedback in the therapy session for enhancement in the mind-body connection.

Mind-body therapies have been well established to help improve cases such as chronic pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and stress-related disorders, among others.
