This world, so fast and connected in all ways, forgets to sleep and rest until it's too late, but this activity is a very big role to play in preserving both the physical and mental acuity, emotional balance. Quality sleep and periodic regularity of relaxation will have plenty of different benefits from boosted cognitive function to emotional hardiness. A good understanding of the science of sleep and how to make those a priority will increase one's well-being considerably.

The Science of Sleep

This is a major biological activity in the body, which will aid the body to heal itself. During this resting time, the body will undertake quite a number of very crucial activities, such as tissue repair, building of muscles, and strengthening of the immune system. The brain will only be able to finish the consolidation of memory, processing of emotions, and removal of metabolic waste when it is at rest.

There are two types of sleep: REM and non-REM. Although it is true that non-REM sleep, especially its deeper stages, is necessary for the restoration of the body as a whole, REM sleep encompasses all kinds of cognitive functioning-including memory, mood regulation. For maximum benefit of both types of sleep, an adult must have at least 7-9 hours at night each night.
