Introduction

Herbalism or botanical medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine in human history. The use of plants and their extracts deeply roots itself within ancient traditions and is practiced today in order to promote health and prevent illness and cure some diseases. Herbalism will bridge the gap between tradition and science, offering a holistic approach to well-being.

Plants have been utilized for their medicinal purposes since thousands of years. Salicin in the bark of the willow tree inspired the production of aspirin, and the foxglove plant led to the discovery of digitalis-a heart medication that is absolutely necessary for most people. This indicates how herbal remedies are the basis of many pharmaceuticals. In contrast, herbalism needs to be applied with plants in their raw form or as preparations as little processed as teas, tinctures, and capsules.
